Teachers - FAQs

Is Yoga Sherpa for yoga studios, private yoga instructors, or individuals who want to go on a yoga retreat?
All three.  Typically, the yoga studios and private yoga instructors we work with have at least 200 students to ensure adequate enrollment for their trips.  If you are an individual, follow the “Students” link from the home page to learn more about specific retreats.

Who teaches the yoga classes during the retreat?
The yoga instructor who is leading the retreat usually teaches all of the classes.

What styles of yoga are the retreats geared towards?
All styles, but many of the yoga venues are covered, open-aired spaces so the temperature depends on the outside climate.

Does Yoga Sherpa handle flights?
We book the Retreat Leader’s flight.  We do not book students’ flights, but we will recommend a specific convenient, affordable flight from the Retreat Leader’s hometown.

How long is the typical retreat?
Most retreats are a week long and run from one Saturday to the next Saturday.  Retreats to Europe, the South Pacific, or Asia are usually longer.

What does a daily itinerary look like on average?
    - A morning yoga session
    - Breakfast
    - Free time for local activities or relaxing at the retreat center
    - Evening yoga session
    - Group dinner
    - Kirtan, discussion, night stroll, or local activity

What else is there to do besides yoga?
Most retreats also offer local tours, enticing cultural excursions, outdoor adventures, and rejuvenating spa treatments.

Do travelers need a visa or travel insurance?
Some countries require visas, and travel insurance is recommended.  Yoga Sherpa makes sure you are well advised beforehand.

How much does a retreat cost?
Most of our week long retreats cost about $1,500 - $2,500 per person depending on accommodation style.  If your group has a specific budget, let us know and we will do our best to serve your needs.

What is included in the retreat cost?
Airport pick-up and drop-off in the destination country, accommodations, meals as noted, and use of the yoga space.  Flights, spa treatments, tips, and optional tours are generally not included.

How big are most groups?
The minimum group size is 10 students, although some retreat centers have higher minimum size requirements.  The average group size is 15-20 students with one or two instructors.

Given the current economic climate, are people still signing up for international retreats?
Yes.  Many yoga practitioners, both baby boomers and young professionals, feel that a week to escape the stress of their lives and focus their attention on restoring balance to their own minds and bodies is in fact even more essential in times of economic turbulence.  This helps people return to their daily routines with a reanimated sense of energy and purpose.
